Verification or calibration

”Required by law” or “a metrological requirement”

1. General information

What is verification?“, „ Which cases require a verification and which a calibration?“, „Is a factory calibration sufficient?“ all these are questions we are frequently asked by our customers. For this reason, JAKO has developed a guideline that shows the reasons, purposes, benefits as well as the forms of conformity certificates and the validity periods in a comparison matrix. The following services are compared:

  • Verification
  • Calibration
  • Factory test

2. Table: Comparison between verification, ÖKD calibration, factory test

  Verifcation Calibration Factory test report

VERIFICATION- only when required by law, e.g. when measuring devices are used for:

  • the protection of people
  • the protection of the environment
  • the protection of the public
  • the protection of fair trade activities

CALIBRATION (accredited, ÖKD) -especially when metrological safety is required, e.g.:

  • for calibration standards in in–plant laboratories or test centres
  • if state-of-the-art proof is required
  • for the monitoring of critical measuring points, e.g. HACCP, GMP

FACTORY TEST REPORT - only if a monitoring of the functioning of test equipment is sufficient, e.g.:

  • for test equipment for which ISO 9001 stipulates that its suitability for use must be tested and monitored

Determination of the suitability of a measuring device for a specific application

  • determination of the compliance with legally stipulated verification error limits for the uncertainty of measurement
  • including the determined maximum uncertainty of measurement

Determination of the uncertainty of measurement for reliable measurement results

  • the uncertainty of measurement is determined for every calibration point and reported on the calibration certificate
  • depending on the scale range, the number of measuring points is between 5 and 10

Determination of the device function!

  • determination and recording of the measurement error for every calibration point

  • Legal security
  • Suitability test recognised by the authorities and by law
  • Traceability to international standards
  • Reliable measurement results
  • Confirmed reliability of measurement results
  • Traceability to international standards
  • Tested device functioning

  • Stamping mark, i.e. verification label
  • Verification certificate on request
  • ÖKD calibration certificate

  • Inspection certificate 3.1(for new deliveries)
  • Factory test certificate
The stamping mark is valid for a fixed period (minimum 1 year) depending on the accuracy class Only valid for the time of calibration

Only valid for the time of test
